Asbestos Induced Lung Cancer
Heavy exposure to asbestos, combined with a history of regular smoking can lead to a significant increase in a person’s likelihood of developing lung cancer. Medical opinion differs as to the criteria required for making this diagnosis. The majority of clinicians take the view that a history of heavy exposure, as evidenced by a diagnosis of pleural plaques, is sufficient to support a diagnosis of asbestos induced lung cancer. Few clinicians now believe that the presence of asbestosis is required before such a diagnosis can be made.
