Asbestos Illnesses in Teesside

Tees Transporter bridge

Teesside's first iron ship was a screw steamer called 'The Advance built' at South Stockton (Thornaby) in 1854 and Teesside's first steel was 'Little Lucy' built in 1858. One famous Teesside built ship was the 377 feet long Talpore built by Pearse & Co of Stockton in 1860. It was a troop ship for the River Indus, and was the world's largest river steamer at the time.

From laggers spraying bulkheads and lagging pipes to joiners cutting sheets there were many ways in which you could have had exposure to asbestos.  The dangers of asbestos were well known but many employers did too little too late to protect the workforce.

If you worked on the Tees between 1945 and 1975 and have been diagnosed with an asbestos related disease within the last 3 years you may have a good claim for compensation.
